Security-software firm Tenebril has released an enterprise Relevant Products/Services-level antispyware product that relies on a new profiling technique for blocking, identifying and removing spyware.

SpyCatcher Enterprise is based on a proprietary spyware-hunting technology that moves beyond traditional signature-based analysis to offer protection against mutating and custom-coded spyware, the kind of malicious software that can change rapidly and embed itself deep within an operating system Relevant Products/Services.

Mutating Threat

According to security researchers, the presence of mutating spyware has increased almost three-fold since January 2005.

"Companies face significant costs from spyware, including corporate espionage, theft of employee or customer Relevant Products/Services information and the significant time spent remediating spyware infestations," said Chris Christiansen, vice president of security products and services at research firm IDC.

Irfan Salim, CEO of Tenebril, said the software's multilayered architecture and contextual-analysis capabilities are crucial in addressing the growing threats associated with next-generation spyware.

According to a white paper authored by Tenebril, traditional signature-based solutions fail because they are reactive, meaning that they only come into play after malicious code is identified.

Thus, signature-based protection is useless against new threats, especially mutating spyware that constantly stays one step ahead of signature definitions.

Profiling Intuitive

Tenebril's spyware-profiling technology, on the other hand, is based on assembling a list of traits that by themselves appear safe but in combination reveal telltale signs of intrusion.

SpyCatcher Enterprise uses a Web-based management console that provides I.T. admins access to central management capabilities that give administrators the ability to roll out the software around a network Relevant Products/Services.

The SpyCatcher Enterprise server Relevant Products/Services supports runs on current versions of Windows Relevant Products/Services Server, while the client module runs on PCs equipped with Windows 2000 or higher.

Pricing begins at $25 per seat and volume discounts are available.
