Red Condor's Spam Trip Wire Instantly Detects New "Scare Tactic" Virus Campaign -- Red Condor's virus sensors allow company to immediately and accurately respond to new email threat

ROHNERT PARK, Calif., June 23, 2009 –- Red Condor's Spam Trip Wire feature instantly detected and blocked a new email virus campaign designed to scare email users with bogus legal action for activities including illegal music downloads. The virus campaign detected at 8:29 a.m. EDT on Monday, June 22, 2009, calls attention to users' supposed recent activity at sites commonly used to share and download copyrighted movies, music and software. The email content threatens recipients with legal action and includes a link to a "log report" that is actually a virus executable. Red Condor created a filtering rule and distributed the added security to its security appliance and hosted service customers around the world.

"Red Condor's recently introduced Spam Trip Wire feature immediately detected this virus campaign and prevented the virus from infecting our customers, and within four minutes the Red Condor experts had launched a filtering rule to permanently stop this virus scheme," said Dr. Tom Steding, chief executive officer of Red Condor. "Red Condor offers the right combination of technology and experts providing multiple layers of security that continue to deliver accurate and responsive protection to our customers' computers and businesses. The fact that we were able to instantly detect and block and then quickly issue a rule is very assuring to our customers."

Spam Trip Wire is part of Red Condor's multi-layered defense strategy. Spam Trip Wire quickly identifies spam and virus campaigns before they penetrate users' networks. Suspicious campaigns are put on probation until a filter rule can be written to capture messages from the campaign. During the probationary period, messages referring to the suspicious campaign are quarantined. Red Condor's Hosted Service and MAG-series network appliances receive the automatic updates to ensure that customers' email protection is always up-to-date. The company's technology, services and products are supported by Red Condor's 24x7 Security Operations Center that constantly monitors all network activity to search for new email threats.
